Reaching out to the community with innovative programs that capitalize on the resources and talent of the University.

Many colleges and universities have a number of centers and institutes that function independently.  However, few have a designated entity that maximizes the talent pool of the institution to benefit scholarship and philanthropy in the name of the institution.

Established in 2001, the National University Community Research Institute (NUCRI) is a system-wide, academically oriented and practitioner-based organization that enhances the University's role as a full community partner. NUCRI's mission is to become a leader in community-based research, a contributor to civic and social entrepreneurship, and a valued resource for applied community technology and collaborative community building.

Currently, NUCRI is engaged in a number of innovative programs and projects ranging from the National City Collaborative/Family Resource Center Relational Database for a one-stop, integrated community services data system to the web-based, multilingual, real-time Market Simulator for new venture learning environments. NUCRI also provides professional development programs onsite and online to over 200 AmeriCorps Education Fellows and Independent Charter School teachers serving over 20,000 at-risk youth statewide.

NUCRI provides effective collaborative research and demonstration for scholarship, service, entrepreneurship, and professional development. An integral part of this initiative is the creation of a University Consultant Corps and the engagement of organizational and institutional partners in the collaborative process of mutually rewarding and sustainable community building.
